Generator Fuel Tanks — FAQ
Common questions about generator fuel tanks — faq from Neftgen.
What is a generator fuel tank?+
A generator fuel tank is the dedicated diesel storage that keeps a standby generator running during a power outage. Neftgen builds them in every configuration: sub-base (belly) tanks under the genset, day tanks that feed the engine, and bulk storage tanks for the whole system.
What capacities are available?+
Generator day tanks typically run from 200 to 5,000 litres; base and bulk tanks are built to any capacity. Net volume is sized as fuel consumption (L/h) × required autonomy (h), plus a margin for expansion and fill setpoint.
What is the difference between single-wall and double-wall tanks?+
A double-wall (self-bunded) tank has two steel shells: the inner holds fuel, the outer provides secondary containment with a monitored interstitial gap and leak detection — so no separate concrete bund is needed on site.
Which standards do the tanks meet?+
Neftgen generator fuel tanks are built to EN 12285-2, UL-142 and NFPA 30 / 110, with corrosion protection to ISO 12944 (C4 / C5-M) and manufacturing under ISO 9001.
Can the tanks be installed indoors and outdoors?+
Yes. Tanks are supplied for indoor generator plant rooms or outdoor installation, single- or double-wall, matched to the fuel (diesel, gas oil, MGO, light fuel oil) and site conditions.
Do the tanks come with gauges and alarms?+
Yes — each tank includes a level transmitter, high-high and low-low level alarms, a mechanical contents gauge, and interstitial leak detection on double-wall units, with BMS-ready signals.
